The Latest:
Just Released - A Book / Portfolio of my work
I have self-published it on Blurb.com, where it is public and available to see a 15-page preview (of 68 pages). It can be purchased hardcover with a dust-jacket, or soft-cover.
The Art of S.J.W. Grogan: An Artist's View of the West
The Grand Wash Cliffs: A Visual Essay
This photo book has a lot of great pics (that I took my very own self) of (where else?) the Western edge of the Grand Canyon
and the Colorado Plateau Uplift, known as the Grand Wash Cliffs. It can be ordered from the Blurb website, in softcover, hardcover with dust jacket, or image-wrap hardcover (no dust cover, but very cool looking).

Desert Hearted is my online list/e-store/grouping-of-all-things-desert for people like me who love the desert. It is (and will be) a work-in-progress as I keep finding things and adding them to different sections (and adding different sections).
I have lived in the Mojave Desert for over 25 years now, and have a history with the desert going back a couple more decades beyond that. I paint the desert, write about the desert, love reading about the desert (non-fiction and fiction); vacation in other parts of the desert, horseback ride in the desert, enjoy water-sports in the desert (yes, this is possible) and generally, never want to leave the desert.
While to some this makes me a little (lot) weird, there's a whole other segment of people who completely understand. And since I'm always looking for neat-things-desert (and to date haven't found a comprehensive list), I'm starting one here.
For those fellow desert-rats who are interested, click here or on the Desert Hearted tab at the top index.
Mojave Desert-based Western Artist, aspiring writer (no relation to the author of "Marley and Me," darn), devotee of the Desert, fan of Old (& New) West, and all-around desert-rat.
What's Blue Pony?
The term "Blue Pony" is what I came up with for my studio (and art business) in the early '90s. I liked it because it described an everyday item that had a surprising difference. I meant for it to explain my way of seeing (and painting) subject matter that most viewers might otherwise dismiss with a glance.
Why does it have it's own Mesa?Mesas are heights that expand vision, where limitless vistas come into view, and of course (always!) expose the desert in a few of its many moods. If I could name a mesa, this would be it. (Then, of course, I'd have to go buy a blue-roan pony. Just because.)
Besides, I loved (and love) my original Blue Pony image. This way I get to freshen it up and also expand my horizons. Both are always good things.
